Public Celebrations of Ganpati
Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was the founder of Public celebrations of Ganpati Festival.
He began to celebrate it in 1893 at Pune, India.
Lokmanya is the name given by public out of respect which means 'accepted by all as the leader' During the British rule, people were prohibited of gathering in large numbers. In order to make this possible, one of the Greatest Freedom Fighters of India, Lokmanya Tilak, started to celebrate Ganpati Publicly, and for that religious reason, people could gather Publicly.
He revived it in the form of a public festival.
This facilitated to restore unity between the public in order to fight against the British rulers.

Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most popular Hindu festivals. Ganesh Chaturthi is related to Lord Ganesha. It is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi in Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. It is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on every 4th day of the month of Bhaadrapada. Ganesha is considered as the supreme God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. The clay model of Lord Ganesha is made 2-3 months prior to the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The size of this idol may vary from 3/4th of an inch to over 25 feet. Ladoos are distributed on the day-by tradition ladoos were placed in different corners of the house and eaten before the meal. Milk is offered to idols of lord Ganesh at home and at temples, and Ganesh puja is performed at all temples and hi-house prayer rooms. Fasting, feasting and distribution of sweets offered to Lord Ganesh are important aspects of Ganesh chaturthi rituals in India. Ganesh Chaturthi became a major festival of Maharashtra, where thousands of gigantic idols of lord Ganesh are immersed by huge processions of worshipers shouting, Ganpati Bapa Morya, in the Arabian sea and rivers of the state. The festival has now gained popularity all over India.......

Ganpati Bappa Moria pudcha varsi lokarya....11

Lord Shree Ganesh
is god of knowledge and the remover of obstacles.
Lord Ganesha
is worshipped,
or at least remembered,
in the beginning of any auspicious performance
for blessings and auspiciousness. He has four hands,
elephant's head and a big belly. His vehicle is a tiny mouse.
In his hands he carries a rope
(to carry devotees to the truth),
an axe (to cut devotees' attachments),
and a sweet dessert ball "Laddoo"
(to reward devotees for spiritual activity).
His fourth hand's palm is always
extended to bless people. A unique combination
of his elephant like head and a quick moving tiny mouse
vehicle represents tremendous wisdom, intelligence, and presence of mind.
